The Opioid Project: Changing Perceptions through Art and Storytelling
An interactive art and storytelling project founded and facilitated by Boston-based artist Nancy Marks and physician and Health Story Collaborative founder Annie Brewster.
Project goals:
Increase public awareness
Change societal views about addiction and addicts
Decrease stigma
Encourage dialogue
Prevent opioid abuse and opioid-related deaths
In collaboration with local partners, we organize workshops and community-based art exhibitions featuring paired art and audio clips, honoring, contextualizing and bringing to life the human costs of the opioid epidemic. Please let us know if you would like us to come to your community!

Dr. Annie Brewster is a practicing physician and an audio producer. A graduate of Harvard Medical School and an Internist at MGH, she is also a patient, diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2001. In 2013, she founded Health Story Collaborative , a nonprofit dedicated to harnessing the healing power of stories.
Nancy Marks is a public health activist, art teacher and visual artist and has been making art for over 25 years. In 2014, she launched The Intimacy of Memory, an initiative exploring grief and loss through art. The Opioid Project is her way of weaving the strands of art, healing, love and moral calling. nancymarksartist.com,
