Paula, remembering her son Jordan

Paula H: Artist Statement

Most people are given a name at birth but my son’s name was a full sentence because he was so much more than what could be summarized in one word. The dragonfly is the symbol of his favorite band, Coheed. It was tattooed on his rib cage because he was a musician at heart. Jordan brought music to everyone he met, if not in the literal sense, then in the sense of peace, art and written expression. Even when he was struggling, he always managed to bring joy and sound advice to those around him. The skateboard, his source of adventure could take him anywhere he wanted; but even with my watchful teary eye in the background, it couldn’t bring him to safety. Even as I use his favorite color green in this painting, I can’t help myself from trying to save him by adding the cheerful and hopeful yellow.
